Douglas's obituary
Doug was born on May 24, 1961. He was a 4th generation Winter Park resident. After graduating from Winter Park High School, Doug served in the United States Marine Corp. for 4 years. He then put himself through college at the University of Florida, where he graduated from the Rinker School of Building Construction.
He began his career with Stiles Construction, a South Florida construction-development company that built commercial and corporate office buildings. He moved back to Winter Park in 1994 to start his own company, Trovillion Restorations Inc., offering insurance restoration of real estate and property. In 1998 he began Trovillion Construction & Development, Inc. and did many high end projects including rebuilding the 320-acre South Seas Resort on Captiva Island after it was destroyed by a hurricane. He also was an award winning builder and developer of several high-end condominium projects in both Winter Park and New Smyrna Beach.
In 2008, Doug began a new career path and opened a takeout restaurant on International Drive in Orlando. After a year, he opted to make the business “mobile” and started his first food truck. He quickly added a second truck, and then began a promotion business. During the height of his food truck career, Doug was the largest promoter of food truck events in central Florida, and had been inducted into the “Sentinel Culinary Hall of Fame”, for his impact on the food truck industry.
During Doug’s lifetime he experienced success and failure. In his early years he struggled in school but worked hard and graduated from the University of Florida. He had the ambition to start his own business in construction, and eventually became one of the top builders in central Florida. After the fallout of the housing market in 2006, when the construction industry came to a halt, Doug and his family experienced extreme hardship. But Doug took a risk and entered the food business with no prior experience. He had no fear, and was able to re-invent himself with continual drive and determination. Doug was a firm believer in hard work, and never giving up. This amazing trait has been passed on to his four loving children, Grant (25), Chase (23), Riley (20) and Avery (18).
Doug was a proud conservative and taught his children to be patriots. He made sure during their formative years, that they saw the majority of the United States with many family vacations. He wished to instill “love of country” and for them to know all the beauty this great county offers. Doug was very proud of his children and would brag of their accomplishments, yet pushed for them to be all that they can be.
Doug also served his community as a member of the Rotary Club for 30+ years, including President of the Windermere Rotary Club 2019. He was elected to serve two terms on the Windermere Town Council,, served 6 years as a member of the Board of Directors for Health Central Hospital, and a participant in many other community sub-committees.
Doug’s life began in Winter Park, and he made an impact in South Florida, Winter Park, Windermere, Winter Garden and New Smyrna Beach. He has now come full circle, and will be laid to rest in the Palm Cemetery, back home, next to his family that brought him great pride. Due to COVID 19, it will be a small family-only graveside service. A Celebration of Life, honoring Doug, will be held on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Bar Louie, Winter Park, at 7:00 pm.
