My Junior year I went to DC as part of the University of California’s DC program. An amazing experience that I am still involved with today. Doug interviewed me for an internship at Chemonics. His welcoming attitude and natural ability to be a mentor made the internship feel like a high speed learning journey. We stayed in touch over the years and once when I was in Peru on business he invited me to a wonderful dinner with his family in Lima. Thank you Doug. Jason Yoho

Dear Nella and Tinsler Family, Our deepest condolences to you. Doug and Nella hired us for 3 real estate transactions in the DC area, the first being in 2013. Throughout the process for all 3 of them, Doug showed a tremendous amount of respect and decency. Though the financial gravity of these sales and purchases can often be stressful for clients, Doug maintained a great sense of humor and seemed intent on having fun. We will miss him. RIP Doug.
I used work in Afghanistan with him in Chemonics, I remember when he arrived at Kabul airport and I pick him a few other up from the airport. On the way back a few days later,
Our team received an email that he lost blackberry phone, at the airport I went back looking for it, it was year 2005-2007 and I wasn’t sure it’s a phone I thought he left some Berries at the airport I went all the way to Chief of police of airport ( he lives in VA now) sir my boss left some fruit here will you help me find it, he replied some on Mr. Fazli it’s a matter of $1-$5 buy his a big box of it, maybe one of my officer eat it.
I replied all to the email that Doug we are sorry your Blackberry was eaten by a police office!
After that him and everyone would always mention that to me,
Rest in peace Doug.

Doug, you will forever be remembered as a compassionate person who cared for his beneficiaries in the field. You taught me a lot when I just started out and gave me the opportunity to go on my first trip to Afghanistan. You will be missed. I am sorry I can't make it to your memorial.

My warmest memories of Doug are of when he was just being a dad: he himself became like a big kid, joyful and funny and fun---bounding around, enthusiastically suggesting further ideas for making a game (or a skating ramp) more fun, a meal more delicious. I am grateful that my own kids were often included in his embrace (and that he took my son to the hospital when he broke his arm skating). Doug was never happier than when he was with his kids. My family is grateful and enriched to have known him.

I was lucky enough to have worked for Doug on a large economic project in Egypt. He was a great leader and allowed me to run as fast as possible while keeping me in check. Doug never got mad, was great at listening, and was a good storyteller, and his pancakes are very famous. A great man who accomplished a lot. Rest in Peace for the joy and prosperity you brought to the world!

Dad - your love for all the good things in life, the travel, the people, the cooking, blessing those around you and helping others as well as living well - all of it, was such an amazing example of a life well lived and a blessing to be a part of. I will miss you forever! - and don’t worry the “Tinsleronians” will live on.
