Doug's obituary

Douglas "Doug" Paul Landry, Sr., age 62, of Disputanta, Virginia, passed away on July 2, 2025, in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi—near the water, his favorite place to be. Born on February 3, 1963, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Doug lived a life marked by dedication to family, hard work, and a deep connection to the world around him.

From an early age, Doug was immersed in the values of commitment and service through his involvement in the family restaurant, Don's Seafood and Steakhouse in Baton Rouge. These formative years instilled in him a strong work ethic and a love for connecting with others—qualities that would define his life.

After relocating to Virginia, Doug began a long and fulfilling career at Ancos Plastics Manufacturing. For 31 years, he poured his heart into his work there, taking immense pride in his role and the company’s mission. His passion for his job was evident to all who worked alongside him. He was known not only for his reliability but also for the care and attention he brought to every task.

Doug was a devoted husband to Ronette Landry and a proud father to Douglas “DJ” Landry Jr., Desiree Adkins (Brandon), Destinee Hatch (Nathan), Daniel Landry (Kaylee), and the late Derek Landry. His love as “PawPaw” extended deeply to his grandchildren: Kolbi Landry, Gage Landry, Gavin Landry, Natalie Hatch, Cadence Hatch, Gracelynne Adkins, Katara Landry, Della Adkins, and Baby Landry. He cherished each of them dearly and found great joy in watching them grow.

He is also remembered with love by his siblings: Cindy Carpenter (Randy), Darlene Landry (Roy), Brenda LeBlanc (James Mohs), Kathy Gunn (Scott), Duke Landry (Betty), and Mike Landry (Madeline). His brother-in-law Shane (Robin) and Aunt Barbara Funderburk (Bobby) also held a special place in his life. Doug was preceded in death by his parents Roland Landry and Rachel Allred; his son Derek Landry; sister Maureen Landry; nephew Michael Landry; and mother-in-law Alicia Pelletier.

Doug had a special bond with his many nieces and nephews, all of whom he loved dearly. He was proud of each of them and took great joy in being part of their lives.

Outside of work and family life, Doug found peace and fulfillment in nature. He enjoyed hunting and fishing—activities that allowed him to connect with the outdoors—and took great pride in tending to his chickens and turkeys. Bird watching became another quiet passion that reflected his appreciation for life's simple beauties.

Though he made a life in Virginia, Doug’s heart never left Louisiana, often returning to his Cajun roots—hunting alligators in the bayou, dove hunting with his brothers, and simply spending time with family. And even while living in Virginia, he made sure everyone knew what it meant to be Cajun. He brought Louisiana to life through crawfish boils, big pots of gumbo, jambalaya, and etouffée, always sharing a taste of home and heritage with those around him.

Those who knew Doug remember him as caring and dependable—a protector who nurtured those around him with unwavering support. He approached every aspect of life with passion and integrity. A hands-on man through and through, he never met a person who didn’t walk away feeling respected or uplifted by his presence.

May the memory of Douglas Paul Landry Sr.—his strength of character, warmth of spirit, and enduring love—bring comfort to all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held at The Country Club of Petersburg, 1250 Flank Rd, Petersburg, Va on August 2, 2025 at 2:30pm . All who knew him are welcome to attend and share in honoring his life.
