Douglas's obituary
Douglas Marlin Kreft, Born on August 1, 1936, suffered from a stroke and passed on August 9, 2025. Doug was full of knowledge and memories. He would talk to anyone, anywhere, anytime.
He was born to Helmuth and Margaret (Olson) and grew up in Gibbon MN on their farm. His father gifted him a Ford Thunderbird in 1956 as his graduation gift from South Dakota State University. He used his mechanical engineering degree to work at Gould Battery and Magnetic Peripherals.
He married Donna (Smith) and they had 5 daughters. After they divorced he moved up north. where he spent time logging, and then working at the Ideal Township transfer station in Cass Co until he was a remarkable 80 yrs old. That job suited him well, he got to chat with all kinds of people, and he had a fondness for finding treasure in others trash.
He was proceeded in death by Peggy (Pearl) Olson, his companion of many years.
Doug loved to drive, no restaurant was too far away if he had a hankering for some good food. (Bonus if they had more than the usual dozen tater tots per serving)
He is survived by his sister Karen Sommer, daughters Kathleen (Jim) Donahue, Kimberlee (George) Bovee, Lynn (Dan) Lawrence and Rebecca (Chris) Turgeon. 18 grandchildren, and a dozen great grandchildren with more on the way.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Patricia Haase (Pattie)
May Douglas "Duke" Kreft's memory be a blessing to all who knew him, and may his spirit continue to inspire others even in his absence. Rest in peace, Duke. You will be deeply missed.
