Doug's obituary

My husband, Doug Henderson, was the Love of My Life and my best friend. We were blessed to have shared 29 years together. We have 4 children, 3 grandchildren and another one on the way.

Boy how he loved to travel. We were fortunate and blessed to experience travelling to Aruba, Tahiti, Belize, St. Martin, Hawaii, Jamaica, Key West, Cozumel, Cancun, Tennessee, Georgia, many places in Michigan and much more. He loved the water especially the ocean and had a passion for scuba diving.

Interesting enough, Doug had three tattoos which all represented fish of the ocean. All tattoos were obtained during our travels. His first tattoo was a tribal shark done in a straw hut on a beach in Tahiti. The second one was of a hammerhead shark done on our trip to Hawaii and the last tattoo was a Marlin on his calf done on a vacation in Key West.

Doug was such a hard worker. He started a computer business over 20 years ago and was passionate about helping his customers solve their problems even if he didn’t have all the answers. He would research tirelessly to find answers for them and they truly appreciated his dedication.

He was the best handyman around. He could fix anything and everything from household issues to cars. We never had to pay anyone to fix anything, which was so wonderful. He was also a very giving and generous person and would help everyone that he could with whatever they needed help with.

During the last three years, he enjoyed a new adventure, camping. For three years we parked our fifth wheel at a campground during the summer months. We NEVER missed a weekend away. It was his favorite place to relax, light a bonfire, and forget all the issues and problems from the week. He LOVED every minute of it and I am so glad that he got to experience those 3 years. We had plans to travel in that fifth wheel once we retired, but God had different plans for him.

Most people probably did not know it, but Doug had the most amazing voice. He loved music and most recently Christian music. He was so passionate about music that he would get goosebumps when he listened to music that touched his soul. I loved to listen to him sing. He sang to me almost every day since we met, I could never get enough.

Another thing most people would not know about Doug was that he read the Bible in its entirety 5 times. He would start it at the beginning of the year and be done before the end of the year. No doubt in my mind that he is in heaven and finally enjoying a life free from all the pain that he had to endure throughout his life.

We lost so much when we lost him. A husband, a father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was my Rock and Sunshine on a cloudy day and I will miss him tremendously!

Friends are invited to share their memories of Doug with his family during a memorial service which will be held at Kensington Community Church at 1825 E. Square Lake Rd, Troy, MI on December 11, 2020. Doors will open at 9:30 and service will start at 10:30. Donations on his behalf can be made to the American Cancer Society.
