Doug's obituary

Douglas Joe Billnitzer was born February 14, 1950 in Seguin, Texas to Theodore and Marie Jo Billnitzer. Douglas graduated Southwest Texas University. He served and was honorably discharged after 4 years in the navy, before pursuing a passion in sports journalism and then later serving as a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service. Douglas shared a number of passions with friends and family including football, sailing, camping, trivia competitions, and Lord of the Rings fandom. An avid runner and triathlete, he participated in more than 100 long distance runs and triathlons over the course of his life. He was also an active member in the local scout troop 285 with his sons.

Douglas inspired others with his humor and optimism. His most treasured legacy is those he touched as a caring and loving husband, father, and grandfather.

He departed to the Grey Havens on February 5, 2024 after a 17 year battle with Parkinson’s disease. He is survived by his wife Karen Coffman Billnitzer; children, Derek Theodore Billnitzer and husband Keith, Andrew Joseph Billnitzer and wife Chetna, Alan Christopher Neff and wife Martha; grandchildren Cruz Banda Neff and Prem Pande Billnitzer; siblings Joan Billnitzer Lackorn and partner Price, Janet Billnitzer Haas and husband William, and Philip August Billnitzer and wife Beth.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation or The Michael J Fox Foundation.
