Douglas's obituary

Douglas Jerome Behl, also known as Doug, of De Pere, WI, passed away on July 4, 2025, due to complications from heart failure. It was fitting, in a way, that his final day was on his favorite holiday, Independence Day.

Douglas was born in Kenosha, WI on August 31, 1963 to James Jerome Behl and Olive Behl (nee Meverden).

A self-made businessman and independent contractor, Doug modeled a strong work ethic and took immense pride in providing for his family. Known as the “bread man,” he worked as a district manager for Hostess, then became an independent contractor for Brownberry Bread then Mission Foods serving the De Pere Area.

He had five children with his first wife, Pam Collins. Later in life, Doug found his soulmate in Cami King, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and had a son. Cami was the light in his later years, and his devotion to her was unwavering.

Doug was known for many things, his famous homemade pizzas that drew friends and family to the table, his deep love for Yellowstone’s wild beauty, his fondness for buffalo, his passion for the mountains, and his quick wit that could keep a room laughing. His humor was matched only by his loud, unmistakable laugh, the kind that could echo across a room and lift everyone’s spirits. He also had a knack for woodworking, creating beautiful, lasting pieces with his hands, projects that will continue to tell his story long after he’s gone.

A man of deep faith, Doug trusted in God’s guidance throughout his life. His love for family, friends, and laughter reflected the joy and hope he found in his faith.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, Brent Douglas Behl, his parents James and Olive Behl and sister Valerie JoAnn Behl.

Survivors include:

His beloved wife, Cami.  His children: Derrick (Holly), Dakota (Rachel), Dani (Michael), Cheyenne (Kiefer), and Little Doug Jr.

Grandchildren:  Emily, Jaxson, Jameson, Brooklyn, Maverick, Bentley, Mariah, Asher, Evelyn, and Raylan.

Siblings; Sister: Debbie (Jerry) Kalbfell; Brothers: Scott Behl, Thomas (Stacy) Behl, and Bradley (Karrie) Behl;

Doug’s life was marked by hard work, love for his family, and an unwavering appreciation for the beauty of the world around him. A legacy that will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

We invite family and friends to join us in celebrating the life of Doug on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Highland Crest Baptist Church, 1830 S Military Ave, Green Bay, WI 54304. A time to gather and share memories with the family will begin at 11:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 12:30 p.m. honoring Doug’s life and legacy. A meal will be served afterward for family and close friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made toward a journey to South Dakota to fulfill Doug’s final wish of having his ashes spread among the mountains and buffalo he loved. He would have preferred to help fund an adventure over a bouquet any day.
