Doug, I am forever grateful for our friendship. I was blessed that you referred to me as your “adopted daughter”. I am so thankful for all the great memories you helped provide. So many unforgettable family vacations!

Doug had so much love for his family, pets, sports and also a great love for music. Music really spoke to him! I remember coming home several times with Brenna and he would have a full on concert downstairs and he would be rocking out!

We as a family would have countless late nights watching movies, playing cards or watching tv shows such as Cheers or Frasier. I was blessed that I got to join them on several of their family vacations but how could I forget our trip to Ireland to see U2! The night of the concert in the country, “Where the Streets Have No Name”, we all rocked out like no one was watching. It was a “Beautiful Day”! Also on that trip we all kissed that Blarney Stone! Even though Doug and I didn’t need to kiss that stone, because we both were already blessed with that gift of gab. We both could, as he would say “shoot the shit” for hours. He taught me so much! He was very knowledgeable on every topic and when he talked he would provide such great details.

He had the best sense of humor! His laugh was so contagious. It was the definition of a real knee slapper laugh! He would start laughing, give a little shake of his head and slap his knee. His laugh was one I’ll never forget!

When I got married, he welcomed my husband with open arms into our extended family. He also had great love for my children as well. He would tell me that the apple didn’t fall far from the tree and that they inherited my same firecracker personality.

Thank you Doug, for raising such an amazing best friend for me. Thank you for always including me! I am forever grateful for our friendship and I will miss you deeply! Love you always, friend!

So sorry for your loss.  Loving thoughts and hugs to all who love and will miss him.

Mr. Layne was two of my children’s second grade teacher.

He always taught with such compassion.  I remember my daughter coming home one day saying that after her trip to a restroom, she came in the class and told them that there was a beautiful rainbow outside.  Doug stopped teaching and took them all out to see it.   He told the students  that they were all beautiful rainbows and each had their own colors to shine.   I volunteered in the class often and he was always willing to stop a lesson to talk about something that was meaningful to the children.  ❤️

I'm so sorry for your loss.  Your dad and I worked together for almost 20 years.  He was a great friend and co-worker.  He is missed!
