Doug's obituary
Doug Griffith, 80, of Alpharetta, Georgia, passed away on November 22, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Born on January 23, 1945, in Fort Benning, Georgia, Doug was the son of Ruby and Joe Griffith. He grew up with his younger brother, Tommy in Wheaton, Maryland. He proudly served in the United States Air Force for four years, stationed in Africa during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, Doug was asked to join the Freemason which he proudly served with and then began a 45-year career with Hitachi as a traveling salesman of electron microscopes, a role in which he built lifelong relationships across the world.
Doug is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Mimi. He was a devoted father to his four children—Jody, Greg, Katie, and Sally—and found even greater joy in being “Grandaddy.” He is survived by his children and their families: Jody and Elvis, with children Aubree and Isaiah; Greg, with daughter Ava; Katie and Ryan, with children Nathan and Abigail; and Sally and Coleton, with daughter Jolene.
Known for his warm and generous spirit, Doug opened his heart to everyone he met. He could walk into any room, airport, or hotel lobby and walk out with a new friend. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the camaraderie of his longtime friends in the Suttle Hilton. Some of Doug’s favorite things were watching Lonesome Dove, listening to Bob Dylan, and sharing a martini with friends or a root beer float with his grandkids. Doug opened his home and his heart to everyone. If you needed a place to stay, he had a bed. If you needed a meal, he would cook. If you needed someone to sit with you, laugh with you, or simply listen, Doug was that person. He lived a life of quiet generosity, the kind that didn’t seek praise or recognition. He just loved people, and he loved them well.
Doug will be remembered for the sacrifices, the laughter, the stories, the wisdom, and the love he leaves behind.
