Dorothy Steely, a woman of strong willpower, loving, caring, witty, and outgoing personality, was born on September 20, 1946, and passed away on November 12, 2023. She lived a life full of love, vibrant laughter, and the unyielding determination to overcome all obstacles. Dorothy's favorite color, purple, aptly represented her passionate spirit, and her legacy of kindness will continue to inspire everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Dorothy's life was a testament to her favorite lesson: "If you don’t have nothing nice to say don’t say anything."
She is survived by her children, Tammy Okyere, Kenneth Steely, and Julie Robinson, and her grandchildren, Amanda Williams, Danny Leiphart, Jade Robinson, Rodney Steely, Corbin Cook, Kory Steely, Kelsy Steely, and Kenny Steely, and numerous great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed but remembered fondly through the love and values she instilled in her family.
Dorothy was predeceased by her mother, Fern Saylor, her step-father, Sterlin Saylor, her brothers, Larry Snell, Vince Saylor, and Victory Saylor, her sister, Christine Saylor, and her great-grandson Shelby Steely! Their memories added to the rich tapestry of Dorothy's life and she often recalled them with fond stories and shared laughter.
One of Dorothy's most significant accomplishments was being a single mother and raising her children and granddaughter alone. This feat reflected the depth of her commitment to her family and her ability to face and overcome challenges with grace and courage.
Her favorite vacation spot was the Smoky Mountains in North Carolina, a place where she enjoyed being outdoors. She loved shopping on JTV and following her favorite sports team, the Redskins. Dorothy had a knack for creating delicious holiday dinners, especially featuring her favorite foods like pretzels, cranberry sauce, and ham, leaving everyone in anticipation of her holiday feasts. The sounds of Tim McGraw, her favorite music artist, frequently filled her home, and she enjoyed watching Ghost hunters on TV and Christmas movies.
Dorothy cared deeply about the welfare of animals and supported the ASPCA. Her favorite local spot was Indian Steps, a place where she loved to spend time and often spoke about fondly. Dorothy was known for her love of Sprite, a simple pleasure that often brought a smile to her face.
Dorothy Steely will be missed by many and remembered by all who knew her. In our hearts, her memory will live on as we recall her strong willpower, the warmth of her love, the joy of her laugh, the brilliance of her wit, and the comfort of her hugs. Her legacy is one of kindness, a lesson to us all, and she will be missed enormously.
