Dorothy's obituary
Dorothy was born on December 7, 1932 to the late Wilburn and Mandy Miller in Union County, South Carolina. She was baptized at an early age at Wyatt's Chapel Baptist Church in Buffalo, South Carolina.
Her family moved to Charlotte, North Carolina where she graduated from West Charlotte High School in 1953. She continued her higher learning at Barber Scotia College in Concord, NC; however, before graduating she left for a job in New York during her senior year.
Dorothy would meet and marry Linfred Moore. She worked for many years as an autovon operator (automatic voice network) for the United States Navy and enjoyed many activities such as bowling, making beautiful ceramics and cooking.
She became a member of Queen Street Baptist Church in Norfolk Virginia in 1972 and was ordained as a deacon in July of 2002. She served in the culinary ministry and was affectionately known by her church members as Deacon Dottie.
Dorothy was predeceased by her parents Wilburn and Mandy Miller, a beloved niece Sherrie Hawkins and her brother in law Orum Lide Sr.
She is survived by her beloved husband Elder Linfred Moore, a son William Linfred Moore both of Portsmouth, Virginia. Her one and only sister Mattie ( Sneaky) Lide of Charlotte, North Carolina, granddaughter Kyani Skinner, grandchildren Juellz and Dashani, five nieces Ingrid Padgett (Charles), Koren McCoy (John), Dorothy (Dottie) Lowe, Mattie Stewart, Roslyn Miller and one nephew Orum Lide Jr. (Quinice) all of Charlotte, North Carolina.
Her celebration of life will take place at 11:00 am Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at the Queen Street Baptist Church in Norfolk, Virginia with Dr. Glenn E. Porter officiating.
Dorothy will have a burial ceremony to announced at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
