Dorothy's obituary
Obituary
Dorothy May (Robinson) McMenomy, 101, long time Kelso resident, went to be with her Lord on May 13, 2024 at her home in Federal Way, WA. She was born April 2, 1923 in Cornell, WI to Paul M. Robinson and Ella (Dudonsky) Robinson. Her family moved to Kelso in the early 1930s and then to Federal Way in 2007. After graduating from Kelso High School, she worked as a secretary before marrying Don McMenomy in 1957. She and Don built a house in the hills above Kelso in the early 1960s; the street which accesses the house still bears the family name (McMenomy Drive).
Dorothy had a life-long passion for hand-made items, whether quilts as a member of the quilting circle at Bethany Lutheran Church, or flower arrangements. She loved sports, whether it was cheering loudly at her son Brian’s sporting events or watching the Seahawks on TV. She emphasized the importance of family through get-togethers with her sister Vivian and family, monthly Sunday dinners up at Aunt Sylvia and Uncle Leon’s house on a bluff above the Toutle River, and Friday nights over at John and Frances Grotte’s house.
Dorothy also facilitated and encouraged Brian’s life-long relationship with Jesus and his love for music and worship. The Yamaha upright piano that Brian grew up playing is still in Brian’s house today.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband Don, her brothers Art and Bob Robinson, her sister Vivian Metz, brother-in-law Wayne Metz, and niece Debbie Fisher. She is survived by her son, Brian, daughter-in-law Shelly, granddaughters Brianna and Sarah, nieces Leanne Graunitz and Shirley Jokela, nephew-in-law AJ Fisher and his daughters April and Emily, and other extended family members.
Thank you, Mom for the love and care you gave, and for giving us the privilege of caring for you and Dad. We’ll miss you, but we are comforted to know you are in the arms of your Savior now.
