Dottie's obituary

Dorothy Ligman, better known to her friends and loved ones as Dottie, was born on July 22, 1929. Her soul was called to rest April 11, 2026, yet her legacy endures as a model of a life lived to the fullest. She was a woman of artistic talent, a great sense of humor, and a paradigm of generosity, kindness, and love. After graduating from Lake View High School in 1947, Dottie embarked on her professional career at Illinois Bell where she began as a Telephone Operator and contributor to their Art Department. Dottie married Richard “Dick” Ligman in 1962 and retired from her career as a Long-Distance Operator with Illinois Bell in 1964, leaving behind her legacy of "Miss Voice". Dottie was heavily involved in her community, where she was an attendee at St. Johns Lutheran Church, and held appointments as Worthy Matron, Chaplain, Conductress, Esther, Ruth and Secretary at the Albany Park, Betsy Ross and later Elmhurst chapters of the Order of the Eastern Star. Her dedication to the Eastern Star spanned more than six decades. After Richard was called to heaven in 1987, Dottie completed her Master's Degree in Business Administration. Her love for the arts was ever-present, and she passionately pursued several hobbies, including painting, drawing, singing and dancing. Dottie was a substitute violinist with various Chicago orchestras. A proud supporter of her city, Dottie's favorite sports team was the Chicago Bears. Her preferred color was pink, a hue that perfectly reflected the vibrancy of her personality. Traits like her great sense of humor and artistic nature encapsulated her uniquely spirited personality and will always be remembered by those who had the pleasure to know her. Dottie is survived by her daughter, Kim, who continues to honor her love and memory. Undoubtedly, Dottie's humor, love for life and art, and selfless devotion will continue to inspire those who knew her.
