Dorothy "Dot" Jester, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on January 31, 2023. Born on October 29, 1935, Dorothy, also endearingly known as Dot, lived a life dedicated to her family and her work. Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving husband, David Jester, her son, Darrell Taylor, her sister, Jean Proctor and her brother Ivan Owens. She is survived by her loving daughters, Diana Jones-Walsh, Dana Johnson and Deborah Hosford who meant the world to her. Dorothy is also survived by her sisters, Jeanette Baker and Lisa Coleman. Dorothy's legacy is rooted in her unwavering commitment to her family and her career.
With a warm, family-oriented personality, Dorothy was known as the "best Nana Bear ever" to Ashley Volpicella, Lindsey Jones, Greyson Lohrey, Clayton Walsh, Gabrielle Johnson, Sophia Johnson and Kyle Hosford. She cherished her role as a grandmother and always sought to provide her family with an abundance of love and support. One of the most important lessons Dorothy endeavored to impart upon her loved ones was the belief that no matter how hard life's challenges may be, there is always the opportunity to rise above and become a better person, both for ourselves and the people we care for. When Dorothy's great-grandchildren arrived she felt blessed beyond measure with Lucca, Addison, Ellys, Siena and Everett.
A dedicated worker, Dorothy proudly served at the Virginia State Tax Department for 38 years. This impressive tenure showcased her commitment and loyalty to her chosen profession, and her achievements will long be remembered by those who had the pleasure of working alongside her.
Above all else, Dorothy was a kind-hearted soul, evident by her lifelong attachment to her faithful furry friend, Honey Bear, who will greatly miss her comforting presence. Dorothy's love, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to both her family and friends will forever remain etched in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy as a loving mother, mentor, and friend will live on through the memories and stories shared by those who loved her.
