Dorothy's obituary
Later in life at the age of 55 She married again to Harold R. Hedrek in 1983. They lived happily in the home they shared just outside of Carthage, IL for the remainder of Harold’s life. After Harold’s passing in 2003 she moved to Burnside, IL filling her time by caring for her community and church until 2019 when she relocated for the first time outside of the state of Illinois to Canton OK.
She loved God with all of her heart. Dorothy had a passion for making cards for all occasions and sent them to friends and family. She was known best for her infectious smile, and her kind and compassionate spirit. Dorothy chose her career wisely working as a care giver and CNA throughout her life, she was known to care more for the worry’s of others then her own, always being there for her family, church, community, and strangers whenever she was needed.
Dorothy was proceeds in death by her first husband Ralph W. Holbert, her second husband Harold R. Hedrek, her parents Roy and Mattie Smith, her siblings Charles, Emmit, Elma Marie, Wanda, and Mary as well as her daughter Margaret Ann Holbert.
She is survived by two daughters, Nancy (Keemer) of Canton Ok. and Phyllis (Pruitt) of Burlington IA. Two sons Joe, of Rockford IL and Kieth of Lancaster UK., 12 grand children, 36 great grand children, and 2 great great grand children.
The family will hold a private funeral service at The Lee funeral home in Clinton OK. On Tuesday July 28th . Burial will take place on Friday July 31st where Dorthy will be laid to rest between her late husband Harold and her daughter Margaret in Carthage IL.
The family is asking in lieu of cards and flowers for condolences that those who’s lives Dorthy’s has touched through community or care to instead donate to a charity that was near and dear to her heart (amFAR the foundation for aids research) Dorthy’s youngest daughter contracted the HIV virus after having a surgery requiring her to need a blood transfusion in 1983, she passed away of AIDS in 1989.
