Dorothy's obituary

Dorothy L. Hawkins, age 79, of Hughesville, passed away on January 27, 2024 at Georgetown  University Hospital in Washington D.C. after an unexpected cancer diagnosis. 

She was born on October 4, 1944 to Mary and Benjamin Vermillion. Dorothy graduated high school, began her career with the US Census, and married her late husband Grover 'Sonny' Hawkins. The two had four children and later planted their roots in Hughesville with their custom built home. They enjoyed cruising together to various destinations and spending time with their children and grandchildren. Dorothy was a breast cancer survivor and lived her life to the fullest! 

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Vermillion and Benjamin Vermillion, her husband, Grover Hawkins, her brothers, Benjamin Vermillion Jr and Ernest Vermillion, and her grandson Kirt Parker Jr. 

Dorothy is survived by her four children, Tina Hawkins, Stephanie Gorman, Wendy Parker and William Hawkins, siblings, Francis Tranmer, Timothy Vermillion, and Michael Vermillion, grandchildren, Erika Bryant, Antonio Gorman, Kayla Parker, Tyler Hawkins, Dylan Hawkins, and Kolby Robinson. And her most loved great grandchildren Aaliyah Parker, Dakota Parker, Kynlee Bryant-Sears, Maisie Gorman, and Boston Gorman. 

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society via online donation or to P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741. 

A celebration of life for Dorothy will be held at a later date for family and friends.
