Chowchilla, California — Dorothy Jo Christoffersen, 91, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, Nov 18. Born on Sept 9, 1931 to Joseph and Fern Sutton in Coolidge, AZ. The family moved when she was a toddler to Madera county where she became a lifetime resident of Chowchilla. Dorothy attended Chowchilla Union High School and graduated class of 1949. One year later she married her high school sweetheart Paul J Christoffersen Jr on Dec 30, 1950. Together they grew and harvested almonds on their own farm. They raised two daughters Paula Jo and Diana Lynn. Dorothy was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her life was built around serving family and friends. When visitors came you could guarantee they would leave her home with almonds in hand. She was honest, kind, loyal, hard-working and had a great sense of humor. Dorothy will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Preceded in death by her husband, Paul Christoffersen Jr., parents Joseph and Fern Sutton, brother Joseph Sutton and son-in-law Steve Lee. Survived by sisters Betty Askew and Barbara Rhine (John), daughters Paula (Ted) and Diana, 3 grandchildren David (Liz), Katlynn (Nathan) and Randal, 9 great grandchildren, many extended family, cousins, nieces, nephews, and so on. Glenna de Lisle, who became like a daughter, and countless other friends.
Viewing will be at 10:00am with Services following at 11:00 am, Wednesday, Nov 30th, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 277 Howell Road in Chowchilla, Interment at Chowchilla District Cemetery, 23359 Rd 14 1/2, Chowchilla. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Dorothy’s name to either Ardent Hospice or the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Humanitarian Services.
