Dot's obituary
Ms. Dorothy “Dot” Mae Saxton Caldwell died peacefully and surrounded by family on February 18, 2024 at the age of 89.
Dot is survived by her daughter, Delynne, and her granddaughters Leah and Lauren, along with five loving nieces and nephews and many cousins. She is also survived by her beloved little dog, Macy. She is now reunited with her sister, Sadie Sprouse, her mother, Ella Mae Wilson Saxton, and her father, Richard Lee Saxton, all of whom preceded her in death and whom she missed dearly throughout her life.
Dot was born on August 21, 1934, in Piedmont, South Carolina. Soon after graduating from Brevard High School, she moved to Hendersonville, NC where she worked for Kimberly Clark for over 25 years. Her love for work continued well beyond retirement and she thrived in a second career as a Greeting Card Specialist for American Greetings, where she enjoyed meeting all kinds of people and helping them find the perfect card for their loved ones. She brought comfort and joy to all who crossed her path.
Dot was a strong, independent woman and she instilled the same values in all the women in her family. She took pride in owning her home and loved mowing the lawn and working in the yard. She loved all animals and made sure any animals she met - whether her own pets or neighborhood cats who wandered by - were showered with love and all the treats they could eat. Her pride was her family and she enjoyed spending holidays or Sunday afternoons with them, sharing meals, and watching the kids play.
Her life is most defined by generosity - of spirit, of time, of care, and of gifts. She would give anything she had to anyone, without hesitation. From her early days to her last, she cared for and provided for her family however she could. She was a loyalist and believed wholeheartedly in her loved ones. To be loved by Dot was to be loved unconditionally.
A celebration of life will be held this summer, during the week of her 90th birthday. In lieu of flowers, we ask that family and friends honor Dot's love of animals by sending donations to the Humane Society in her name.
The family would like to thank Hospice Care of Union County and Atrium Hospital Monroe for their exceptional care and support
