Dorothy Louise Russ Aguirre, 91 of Walsenburg, CO passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on May 24, 2018.

Dorothy was Born July 23, 1926 in Gulnare, CO to John and Mary Russ.

She was Preceded in death by her parents; John and Mary, brothers, Jackie, John, and Joe and her sisters; Julia, Jennie, Rosie, Fannie, and Mary, husbands; Edmund “Ace” Aguirre and Joseph Provenza.

Dorothy married Joseph Provenza in 1944 giving birth to daughter Lillian and son Joseph.

Her early years were spent raising her children as well as working on the farm/ranch tending to duties from milking goats to mending fences.

In 1965 Dorothy married her beloved Edmund “Ace” Aguirre and lived in Walsenburg. They were married for 46 years when Ace passed away.

She worked several jobs; cooking for the priests at St Mary’s Parish, sales at JC Penny and Star Drug. A devout Catholic, Dorothy was ordained as a Eucharistic Minister and faithfully served her church.

She had so many special friends that she always helped and was loved by her community. Dorothy loved the many dogs she had throughout the years. Amongst her many wonderful qualities was her unfailing love for her family. Her family loved her dearly and she will live on in each of us forever.

Dorothy is survived by daughter Lillian Provenza, son Joseph (Jessie) Provenza, grandchildren Robert (Kerrie) Campbell, Joseph C (Sandy ) Provenza, Lisa (Stacy Blatner) Provenza, Samuel Provenza, and Joshua (Mandy) Provenza. Eight great grandchildren, 1 great-great grand child, numerous nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at St. Mary’s Church in Walsenburg, CO Thursday May 31st. Holy Rosary 9:30 followed by Mass. Burial will be at the North St. Mary’s cemetery. A celebration of her life will immediately follow.

Services are being respectfully handled by the Boies-Ortega Funeral Home Walsenburg, CO.
