Doris's obituary

Doris Palesano

Beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, Doris Palesano passed away peacefully on March 22, 2025, at the age of 95. She lived a full life rooted in faith, curiosity, and compassion, leaving a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

“Don’t forget your blessings before you go to sleep.”

This simple reminder was something Mom said often, and it became a nightly ritual—one that shaped the way we see the world. Her unwavering faith guided her through life, and she didn’t just talk about her beliefs—she lived them. She walked her talk, holding herself to a standard she believed in, while still having the humility to adjust when new information came her way.

Mom was a seeker. She approached life with deep curiosity, studying the Bible like a scholar for decades, always searching for answers. When she discovered something meaningful, she shared it—whether or not we were ready to hear it. That passion for discovery created a ripple effect. Alice Penfield, Elaine Ohlbrecht, Potsy Old, and Gayla Crampton learned from her example, and now that same spirit of curiosity and sharing lives on in her grandchildren.

She also had an incredible gift for observation and record-keeping. She taught us that life is a series of connected dots, and if you pay attention, patterns emerge. This ability to analyze, question, and problem-solve took us down many rabbit holes over the years and often led to lively debates.

But Mom’s impact wasn’t just intellectual. It was deeply rooted in love and empathy. She had a heart for others and gave generously, even when her own resources were limited. Her empathy taught us to see the world through others’ eyes, balancing compassion with the wisdom of knowing when to step in and when to stand back.

Mom was fearless and determined, yet humble and kind. She had an adventurous spirit and a sense of wonder that allowed her to see beauty everywhere—in nature, in people, and in life’s small moments. She wasn’t afraid to dream, to create, and to try something new.

Perhaps one of the most profound lessons she taught us was how to be alone without feeling lonely. She knew the difference between solitude and isolation, and she found peace in her own company.

As we reflect on her life, we see how these qualities of curiosity, empathy, determination, and faith have become part of us and part of those she touched. Her legacy isn’t just in the memories we hold but in the way we live our lives.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Alice Penfield, and grandson, Reed Ohlbrecht.

She is survived by her daughters:

• Elaine Ohlbrecht,

• Potsy Old, and

• Gayla Crampton.

Grandchildren:

• Jerry and Bill Penfield,

• Tyler and Brody Ohlbrecht,

• Kira, Lex, and Morgan Aagesen,

“Don’t forget your blessings before you go to sleep.”
