Doris's obituary
In Loving Memory of Doris Elaine (Langgood) Nummer
November 26, 1940 – July 16, 2025
Doris Elaine Nummer passed away peacefully on July 16, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family. Born on November 26, 1940, Doris lived a life full of warmth, resilience, and spirited joy.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill Nummer, and by her parents, Earl and Mildred Langgood. Doris is survived by her four children: Daniel Nummer, Terry Nummer, Debbie Lueckhoff, and Thomas (Sharon) Nummer. Her love and guidance will continue to live on through her eight grandchildren—Terry Nummer, Allen Davis, Justin (Angela) Davis, Elaina Davis, Tom Nummer, Mike Nummer, Sydney Nummer, and Mitch Nummer—and her cherished great-grandchildren: Halie, Aaron, Savannah, Leilah, Maverick, and Spencer.
She also leaves behind her siblings Jean Oleksiak and Gerald (Yvonne) Langgood, along with many nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will miss her deeply.
A proud cheerleader at East Detroit High School, Doris carried her spirited energy throughout her life. She married Bill – her high school sweetheart – and was a devoted mother who balanced raising four children with various jobs, including working for Roseville Public Schools in the lunchroom, pressing uniforms at Cintas, and baking at Sweetheart Bakery. She also babysat countless lucky children, always offering a nurturing presence.
Doris enjoyed baking—especially cakes—so her family depended on her to provide her baked creations for countless birthday celebrations. She even had one of her recipes published in the Macomb Daily, so her “world-famous Jello cakes” were often requested after that publication! She had a passion for softball and baseball that was unmatched; she played catcher in her younger years, was always in the stands cheering on her kids and grandkids at their little league games, and she remained a loyal Detroit Tigers fan, never missing a game – even in her final days.
Her competitive streak made family game nights unforgettable. Whether it was Euchre, Apples to Apples, or Checkers, Doris played to win—and expected everyone else to do the same. She taught her grandchildren the value of earning their victories and never hesitated to call out a cheater with a twinkle in her eye.
Above all, Doris was a strong, loving, and wise woman who always put her family first and offered great advice. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the lessons she taught, and the love she gave so freely. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A memorial service will be held in her honor on Saturday, September 6th at 11:00 AM at Redeemer United Methodist Church in Harper Woods at 20571 Vernier Road. All who knew and loved Doris are welcome to attend and celebrate her life.
