Doris's obituary
** In Loving Memory of Doris Jean Sharp **
As followers of Jesus Christ, we are rejoicing in Mom's entry to her Heavenly Reward to see the One she most loved, Jesus Himself. But as humans, we grieve the loss of her presence in our worlds.
Doris Jean Sharp peacefully went to Glory on April 23, 2026, at the age of 97, surrounded by family members. Born on September 16, 1928, in Cumberland, Maryland, Doris was a cherished daughter of Reverend and Mrs. J. Edgar Barrick, who were Assembly of God missionaries to India for 38 years.
Doris met the love of her life, Kenneth Sharp, at church in upstate New York. They were married on June 18, 1955, in South Bend, Indiana, where they raised their family. In 1976, they moved the family to Arlington, Texas, eventually settling in Grand Prairie.
Doris was predeceased by her parents, Reverend J. Edgar and Virginia Barrick, devoted husband Kenneth Sharp, brother Osmonde Barrick, sister Miriam Cook, and son-in-law Steven King, all of whom she loved dearly.
Doris was a woman of remarkable strength and unwavering faith in the Lord, having dedicated her life to her Savior and her family. Her relationship with Jesus and her Heavenly Father was the cornerstone of her life, and she showed and taught her children how to live that out in their lives.
Doris was a woman of immense talent and curiosity. She spent 14 transformative years living in Calcutta, India on and off with her missionary parents, learning the language and loving the people there. She furthered her education at the Central Bible Institute in Springfield, Missouri, where she deepened her understanding of her faith.
Doris was an artist at heart, finding joy in painting, photography, and sewing. Her creative pursuits reflected her vibrant personality and her remarkable ability to find beauty in the world around her.
Doris's legacy is carried forward through her four loving children: Ron Sharp and wife Mary, Jim Sharp and wife Debbie, Phil Sharp and wife Gina, and her only daughter, Jean Renee' King.
Her enduring spirit lives on in her 5 grandchildren—Misty (Kris) Cummings, Ryan (Nicole) Sharp, Neal (Cheyanne) King, Victoria King, and Colby King - as well as her 4 great-grandchildren, Hailey, Ava, Owen, and Jenna, who brought her immense joy.
