Doris's obituary
Doris Jean Flugel, of Sarasota, FL, nursing administrator in Pittsburgh, PA and Rochester and Buffalo, NY, passed away on April 29th, 2025. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, March 22, 1937 to the late Mildred E. and William A.Thomas, Jean possessed a vibrant spirit and generous soul that touched many and left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Jean will be fondly remembered for her lively personality and her passion for sports and cooking. She cherished her time golfing with friends and was a devoted Steelers fan, often spending weekends corresponding with family during games. Amazing meals were her way of showing her love for family and friends.
Her dedication to her church and community was exemplified through the leadership roles she fulfilled with the Global Methodist Church and the Wyndham HOA of Sarasota, FL.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Flugel. Jean is survived by her sister, Mary Thomas (Edward Petrovay), niece Brandy Thomas, nephew Russell Thomas (Susan & Evan), and Robert’s children, Thomas Flugel (Lindsay) and Jan Hopkins (Steve).
A service to celebrate Jean's life will be held on June 7th at 1:00 PM at Global Methodist Church. The service will also be broadcast https:www.stjohns-Sarasota.com/sermon-series
