Doris's obituary
Obituary for Doris J. Finch
Doris J. Finch, born on August 15, 1950, in Camden, Mississippi, entered eternal rest surrounded by love. She was the beloved daughter of the late Emzie Smith and Atline Smith.
Doris was a treasured matriarch within her family and community—someone whose presence brought warmth, guidance, and joy to all who knew her. She worked in hospitality, always believing deeply in treating others with love, dignity, and equality. Her lifelong motto, “Do right by others as you would want done to you,” guided the way she lived and cared for people.
Known for her radiant spirit and uplifting glow, Doris could brighten any room she entered. Her vibrant personality, humor, and unwavering faith were the heart of who she was. Doris truly loved praising God—so much so that the pastors were “always in trouble,” as she joyfully joked. She found her greatest happiness in attending church, speaking about her faith, and spending cherished time with her family, especially her granddaughter, Olivia, who held a very special place in her heart.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver Finch Jr.; five sisters—Rosie Smith, Katherine Smith, Pearline Allen, Maggie Brown, and Vernice Price; and two brothers—Eulice Smith and Emzie Smith Jr.
She leaves to honor and cherish her memory: her daughter Doris Finch; her sons Paul Finch and Jessie Finch; and her grandchildren Olivia Stewart-Wheaton (Edward Wheaton III), Cynthia Stewart, John Clay(special grandchild), Dominic Finch, Rab Stewart Jr. (Junice Stewart), Jeffery Stewart (Stefhani Stewart), and Steven Stewart (Tkyra Stewart). Great Grand-children Jontrell Stewart, Jayden Clay, Cornelius Bailey Jr, Mariah Stewart, Dayton Tate, Jaylah Stewart, Triston Brown, Natasha, Zy'Aire Stewart, Evie, and DJ.
She is also survived by five sisters—Patricia Henderson-Hollins (Jeffrey), Willie Mae Hoover, Valerie Johnson, Hula Mae Smith, and Katie Mae Pullman; three brothers—Percy Smith, Harrison Smith (Kathren), and Roy Smith (Gail); along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many loving family members and friends.
