Doreen's obituary
Doreen Kernozek (Castro), 68, of West Babylon, New York, passed away unexpectedly on April 17, 2026. She was born on August 8, 1957, in Brooklyn, New York, and spent most of her life on Long Island, where she raised her son and built a life rooted in love, strength, and creativity.
Doreen was wildly artistic and unapologetically outspoken. She had a gift for pastel art, and she was damn good at it. In her later years, she became a strong advocate for those less fortunate, using her voice to stand up for others and make a difference. Her family is incredibly proud of the impact she made and the compassion she showed to so many.
She was someone who always put others before herself. Whether it was early morning conversations, time spent with family, or simply being there when someone needed her, Doreen gave her whole heart. She loved yoga, dancing with her friends, and traveling to Washington several times a year to visit family.
Doreen is survived by her son, Gregory, the light of her life, and his fiancée, Kimberly (Velasco); her sister, Valerie, and family; along with other siblings. She also leaves behind Gregory and Kimberly’s beloved animals, whom she proudly claimed as her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Dora; her father, Benjamin; and her stepfather, Ralph.
Doreen will be deeply missed, but her legacy will live on in the lives she touched, the love she gave, and the strength she passed on to those around her.
We will miss you, Momma Bird.
