Doreen's obituary
Doreen Ruth Bussard Gatley was born in Portland, Oregon on August 26, 1928, and died on January 23, 2024, at age 95. She is survived by her two sons, Daniel and Randall, 7 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandkids. Her daughter Theresa, predeceased her in 2021.
Doreen was schooled in Portland and later went to business college to become a secretary with a mortgage guide publication. She was very active in sports, and loved to swim and play tennis. Snow skiing was also a big favorite of Doreen’s.
In her early years, Doreen moved to Sun Valley, Idaho to work in a restaurant and have skiing as a past-time. It was here that she met Howard Gatley who was a musician, stand-up bassist, and trumpet player from Kenosha, Wisconsin. The two were married, and Doreen had two children while living in Idaho. Both Dan and Terri, were born in the Sun Valley Lodge (while hospital was under remodel).
The family moved to the Portland area in the early 60’s, where their third child, Randy, was born. Doreen and Howard raised their three children, and Doreen spent the rest of her active days living happily with family and friends. She enjoyed many ski trips and adventures with her husband, Howie, who died in 1999.
Doreen loved to travel, she was a trusted member of her church, an avid bridge player, and a tennis enthusiast. She was strong and determined into her elder years. She moved into a care home in 2022 where she was tenderly cared-for and loved. She passed there, in Oregon City, with dignity and in peace. Bless Doreen.
