Dorathy's obituary
Dorathy, her brother Louis, and her mother Marjorie moved to Washington where they lived with Dorathy's stepfather Oscar Ekstedt and, later, her sister Tina Ekstedt. Dorathy grew up in Poulsbo's iconic log cabin off of Viking Way overlooking Liberty Bay. She met her husband Douglas Trusty in Seattle during the 1962 World's Fair. They married at Scandia Bible Church on May 25, 1963.
During her time as a beautician, homemaker, caregiver, and retiree, Dorathy was always reading a book and following a creative pursuit. She was an active member of the American Hero Quilts group where she made red, white and blue quilts for combat-wounded active duty service members. She had an eye for design and color with strong talents in all creative endeavors including drawing, painting, clothes-making, calligraphy, flower arrangement, gardening, and more. Dorathy was formerly a member of Kitsap County’s The Hometown Band where she played clarinet. She belonged to Anchor of Hope Church in Silverdale. Dorathy was a loving wife, selfless mother, doting grandmother, and easy friend to people and animals. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Dorathy is survived by her husband Douglas Trusty, and four children: Kay Gell, Stuart Trusty, Serena Hendricks, and Cory Trusty. Her siblings are Lou Lawrence in Lakewood, CA and Tina Pinkowsky in Rainier, WA. Her beloved grandchildren are Nicholas Ward, Christopher Ward, Grace Hendricks, Sonja Hendricks, Moira Johnson, Tessa Johnson, Bhakti Saraswati Trusty, and Vedant Krishna Trusty. Her great granddaughter is Bailey Ward.
