Dora's obituary

Dora Gonzales Madril, age 83, of Phoenix, pencil-sketch artist, Senior Folklorico dancer, and an impeccable dresser peacefully passed on Sunday, June 7, 2020. Dora was born in Seagoville, Texas, and moved to Phoenix, Arizona at a young age where she lived the majority of years of her life. Growing up in a single-parent household during the great depression was one of the many complex challenges that Dora faced in her young life. She was a good student but dropped out of school in the sixth grade to help support her family by working in the agricultural fields in Arizona. In 1957 she married Arturo Sapien Madril to whom she was married for 35 years until his death in 2000. Dora focused on raising her children, making tortillas and meals three times a day, and being a devout Catholic which left little time to tidy up the house. However, the six children were enlisted as janitorial providers as soon as they were able to walk. Hence, the dishes were always washed, the carpets always vacuumed, and the yard was always mowed to a height of 1.25 inches. For the past 20 years, she lived with her daughter Maria in Roswell, New Mexico.
She was surrounded by grandsons, granddaughters, and great-grandchildren who chose to be around her, who celebrated her and yes, even when she was cantankerous. She went to college, danced in a Seniors Mexican Folkloric company, and with her granddaughters, too. She did all kinds of dancing at the adult center including tap and line dancing. For several years she competed in the Senior Olympics. She volunteered at the school where her daughter was a middle school teacher. She adopted kids in the Reading programs. She belonged to several groups at church. Her daughter Maria was instrumental in helping Dora live a full life after the passing of her husband. Dora's was a life that was celebrated while she was alive.

She is preceded in death by her husband Arturo, and her daughter Dori Grace (a verifiable angel). She leaves behind her glamourous and beautiful sister Eva Hernandez of Phoenix, Arizona. She is survived by Maria (daughter) and Paul Seifert of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Martha (daughter) and Fred Terraza of Galveston, Texas, Arturo Jr. (son) and Leti of Oceanside, California, Peter (son) and Monte Young of Westerville, Ohio, and Christina (daughter) and Ralph Matta of Roswell, New Mexico. She is survived by her grandchildren Mateo, Pablo, Mario, Belle, Nicky, Trish, Frankie, Sophia, Victoria, Laura, Gabby, Olivia, and Savannah. She is survived by her greatgrandchildren Analise, Elio, Alessandro, Bernie (Pokemon card collector), Ulrich, Vanessa, Jasmine, Pappas, and JesseWade (who bears a striking resemblance to his uncle Peter). Mom, we miss you terribly.
