Donovan's obituary

Donovan George Thomas was born in November 1st 1948 in Los Angeles CA to Ida and George Thomas. He had 2 brothers Gary and Corky. He lived majority of his life in Los Angeles until he moved to Palm Springs in the mid 90s with my grandmother Angie. He was my grandma Angie's companion and my mother Adelez's best friend. He's been in our family for over 60 years. He's not blood, but family is not always blood. Donovan was my grandfather in my eyes. Not only to me and my brothers, but to our children. He was always there when we needed him. He always had a great sense of humor and always made us laugh. He loved taking pictures. He would stop and pose anytime he seen a camera pointed in his direction. Even in public with someone he just met.  Waitresses at restaurants, events etc. His personality was bright and warm. His sudden passing on August 24, 2022 (found out on August 25th through welfare check after not being able to get a hold of him for 24 hours) was shocking and heartbreaking. 5 months prior we lost our mother, he lost his best friend. They are now together in spirit along with our grandmother Angie. The Riverside county coroner's office has had our grandfather in their possession since August 25th 2022. They said because me and my brother Ryan who were the closest to him are not blood and they needed to find his next of kin and that our grandfather can be there possibly 6 months or more. It's been 3 months already. They recently found his only remaining sibling corky who is giving me and my brother authority and permission to take care of our grandfather Donovan's services. Donovan had a falling out with his blood family years ago and has not talked to them in years so we don't expect any help from them. Our family just wants to have a proper service by cremation for our grandfather. After paying for our mothers funeral in April, we need a little help. It has deeply saddened us that he has been sitting at the coroner's office this long. We want him at peace physically. We know he is spiritually. We are calling around to mortuaries in the palm springs area to see where we want to cremate him. We plan on scattering his and his mother's ashes in Los Angeles CA at the Santa Monica pier. He was still in possession of her ashes when he passed. If anyone can please help, any amount is greatly appreciated. Thank you and God bless.
