Don's obituary

Don Hubbard passed away after a long illness on February 5, 2024. Don was born, to Charlie C. Hubbard and Hazel V. Hubbard in Newton, NC.

A proud graduate of Wake Forest University, majoring in Political Science and garnering the Special Services Award for his participation in the Army ROTC program. He graduated with the rank of Captain, US Army.

Don’s military service took him to Ingrandes, France, where during his spare time, he became an avid clock collector. Collecting old clocks and restoring them to their former glory was one of his passions. He was then on to Massweiler, Germany overseeing a nuclear weapons site for the Army.

After the military, Don had a storied career beginning with the FBI in Baltimore. Don loved being an FBI agent. He was very proud to be part of the brotherhood of Agents. His FBI career took him to Europe and Scandinavia on various assignments. After 10 years of service with J. Edgar Hoover, he left the FBI to pursue corporate opportunities.

Don then went to work as global director of security for Howard Hughes, at Summa Corporation, then Playboy Enterprises working directly with Hugh M. Hefner. In conjunction with his role as V.P. Global Head of Security, Don was Managing Director of the Playboy Casino in the Bahamas. Then on to Trans World Airlines as Global Head of Security working for Carl Icahn. TWA offered the travel and international business experience that helped Don to become a foremost authority on Global Terrorism.

He left TWA to join PriceWaterhouse Coopers. As Global Director of Security, Don made his mark as a security expert internationally. Don retired from PWC to start his own Security Consulting Company.

Don is survived by Gina, his wife of 40 years, son Edwin Lloyd, daughter Dana Rose, sister Aleta, niece Kisa, grandchildren Sophia and Alex, and many cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Gary, and parents, Charlie and Hazel.

Don was a fierce patriot who believed America to be the land of the free and the brave. Conservative values and respect for the rule of law guided him throughout his life. A man of good humor, fidelity and honesty. His answer to any problem was Pray and Exercise, the right way will be shown. Don was best of the best.

A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, February 17, 2024
