Donna's obituary

Donna Hartis Bassett fell asleep in Christ on Friday December 8th at Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Wilmington, NC. She battled stage IV Metastatic Malignant Melanoma for over 11 years and was truly an inspiration to everyone who knew her.

Donna grew up in Indian Trail, NC and graduated from nearby Piedmont High school. She subsequently attended the Berkshire Institute for Christian Studies in Lenox, MA where she met Michael. The two went on to train for ministry at Toccoa Falls College in Toccoa, GA before Michael followed the call to pastor congregations in GA, FL and NC. Donna was an amazing pastor’s wife but her highest calling and life’s passion was to be a homemaker and homeschool teacher to each of her 4 children. When she wasn’t busy with her family life, Donna was passionate about mentoring and teaching women, working with expectant mothers as a labor doula, and later became quite an accomplished photographer.

Donna is survived by her husband Rev. Michael Bassett and their 4 children: Isaac (wife Nicole), Abigail, Caleb and Lydia. Also surviving are her Mother, Violet Hicks of Paigeland, SC; Father Larry Hartis (wife Bonnie) of Indian Trail, NC; Sister Anita Hinson (husband Bill) of Houston TX; Sister Maria Andes (husband Greg) of Indian Trail, NC; and Sister Amanda (husband Greg) of Clyo, GA; and a great number of wonderful nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Stergios Moschos who was Donna’s oncologist at UNC, Chapel Hill for over a decade.

A celebration of life service will take place at 3pm on Saturday December 16th 2023 at Dulins Grove Church (11200 Arlington Church Rd, Charlotte, NC 28227) The family will receive friends before the service between the hours of 1-2:30pm.
