Donata's obituary
Donata Raebig
Donata Raebig, age 90, passed away on Sunday, January, 11, 2026 at St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, Illinois. She was born on November 15, 1935, in Scranton, PA, the daughter of the late Jerome and Mary (nee Wisniewski-Vesneski) Barraia.
Donata had a heart of pure gold. Her door was always open, and so was her kitchen, welcoming anyone in need of comfort with a warm plate of homemade spaghetti and meatballs. She found her greatest joy in knowing that her loved ones arrived hungry and left not only with full bellies, but with full hearts. Her family will forever cherish the memories she created, especially the lovingly homemade birthday cakes she never missed, making every celebration feel special and deeply personal.
Donata is survived by her son, Douglas Raebig, her daughter, Diana Tapper, and her other children. She is also survived by her granddaughter and namesake, Donota Falakos, her grandson, Anthony Gaines, and her other grandchildren. Her great‑grandsons, Anthony Gaines Jr. and Marlon Gaines, Lucky Luciano, along with her other great‑grandchildren, also carry on her legacy. She is further survived by her great‑nieces and great‑nephews. The extended Gaines family.
Nicholas Raebig, Edward Tapper, Alan Tapper, Kim Antoine, Terry D’Arcy, Melinda Felty, Nichole, Porsche, Michael, Frankie, and Suzette. Kyle Gaines.
She is preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Chad Miller; and brothers, Don Barraia, Louis “Buddy” Barraia, and Jerome Barraia.
As it was her request, cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Donata’s name to Dementia Society of America.
