Donald's obituary
It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Donald Sweeney on April 19, 2024. Born on November 18, 1938, Donald lived a full and vibrant life, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and enduring memories. His infectious wit and jovial nature will be fondly remembered by those who knew and loved him.
Donald was a proud graduate of Woodstock High School, class of 1956. His devotion to his country led him to serve in the Army, from which he received an honorable discharge in 1964. In the bloom of his youth, Donald married Marlene McCoy in 1959. They welcomed their beloved daughter, Cynthia Hulse, into their lives later that year. His wife, Marlene, preceded him in passing.
Donald found great pleasure in the simple things in life. He was a firm believer in comfort food, with coconut cream pie being his preferred dessert. He found joy in the satisfying fizz of Pepsi and the strumming chords of Johnny Cash music. An ardent Dallas Cowboys fan, he wore the team colors of blue with pride and often spent weekends angling by the river, a pastime he thoroughly enjoyed.
Undeniably outgoing, Donald was known as a jokester and often lightened the mood with his witty humor. His greatest accomplishments include his service in the army, the birth of his daughter, driving truck and competing in numerous fishing competitions. His laughter and warmth will be greatly missed by his surviving family: his daughter, Cynthia Hulse; his son-in-law, James Hulse; his granddaughter, Shannon Weickum; and his grandson, Joshua Buracker.
Donald's retirement in 2010 marked the close of a fruitful career at Omps Garage Inc., but the start of a new chapter filled with family, friends, and pastimes he loved. Amidst the grief of his loss, we find comfort in knowing his life was filled with joy, shared with the people he treasured and the activities he loved.
In honor of Donald's memory, may we all remember to celebrate the joy in life and never underestimate the power of a good joke. Donald Sweeney, a cherished father, grandfather, and friend, may you rest in peace. Your memory will continue to live in the hearts of those who loved you.
