Donald's obituary
Larry was born on March 3, 1947 to Donald Orria Stump and Ruth Ann Ruttkofsky in Brooklyn, Michigan. He attended Western Michigan University on a football scholarship and went on to play for the Toronto Argonauts. He also worked as a teacher, a military police officer in the Army, and as a Labor Relations Supervisor at Ford Motor Company.
After his heart attack in 1993, Larry enjoyed being a stay at home dad, and soon became known to many in the community as Thunder. He loved grilling and making too much food just in case someone stopped by, and his enthusiasm for mowing the lawn sometimes compelled him to drive down US12 so he could surprise a neighbor with freshly cut grass.
His hobbies varied over the years, but he most enjoyed spending his time cheering for Clinton's athletes and being with his grandchildren. Larry spent several years caring for his grandsons Donald Stump III and Tyler Stump and later moved to Virginia to take care of Jessy's children Reed and Jackson Watkins. He made many trips to Buffalo, sometimes impromptu, to visit with his sons Brian and Brad and his grandchildren PJ, Alivia, Ashley, Hannah, Oliver, Zoey, and Riley. He boasted about his family to anyone who would listen, and he spent his last days enjoying time with his loved ones.
A private memorial took place in his home on November 8th, 2020. In lieu of flowers, the family is collecting donations for The Clinton High School Wrestling Club.
