Background
On Thursday, April 15, Donald Lee Smith passed away suddenly at the age of 64. Born in Detroit, Michigan and raised in New Richmond, Ohio, he also spent two decades in the Bay Area of California raising his two younger children. Don was father to Patrick, Megan(Michael), and Cody(China) Smith, grandfather to Alexandria, Alanna, Miyelli, Maximus, Gwendelyn, Alaizabelle, and Aryia. He is survived by sisters Susan Hale and Kay Teegarden and preceded in death by brother Leonard “Gene” Smith, sister Robin Smith, and parents Shirley and Leonard Smith.
Don would describe himself as an “old hippie”. He wore long hair and a beard most of the time, loved classic rock, and would never turn down a smoke. He was stubborn, patient with his grandkids, funny, fun to fluster, and you couldn’t help but love him. Children and animals flocked to him and didn’t want to leave his side; recently a baby raccoon even groomed his beard. He liked to spend his free time watching horror films, fishing, and relaxing with his closest friend, Talmidge Zipperer Dewitt and their cats and pug, Officer Doodle Noodle.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations towards Donald’s cremation. Despite his claims that he wouldn’t live past the age of 30, this was an unexpected tragedy.
