Donald's obituary

It is with great sadness that the children and family of Donald Patrick Sharar announce his sudden and unexpected passing on October 18, 2020. Don was born on April 25, 1950 at Beverly Hospital in Montebello, California, to Leslie and Dolores Sharar who preceded him in death. Don grew up in Whittier and La Habra, California and graduated from Cal Poly, Pomona class of 1974 with a BS in biology. He was the beloved Director of Laboratory Services at Northridge Medical Center for over 30 years where he was well respected among his many friends and colleagues. He enjoyed retirement in 2015 to his home in the Sun City Shadow Hills community of Indio, California with his faithful companion Shiloh, his overly spoiled rescue dog.

In his retirement he enjoyed traveling, concerts, live music and stage performances, gardening, and gatherings with friends for movie and dinner-themed nights. He enjoyed bowling and had a perfect 300 game just before his 70th birthday. Don was looking forward to a long cruise with his girlfriend, Margie, after the COVID-19 virus restrictions improved. He was always a listening ear and confidant to his many friends and family and will be greatly missed. His laughter was always full of the joy he had for life and the kindness he constantly demonstrated extended to anyone he interacted with. His undeniable presence has left a palpable void in this world.

There will be a funeral or memorial mass to be announced at St. Francis Catholic Church in La Quinta, California and interment at the Monolith inside Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Rowland Heights, California with his first born child, Christopher Sharar (predeceased).

He is survived by his three living children, Dr. Kristin Sharar (husband David Cerbone); Jeffrey Sharar; Kevin Sharar (wife Athena); and his sister Janice Stein (husband Joe); niece Jennifer Stein; nephew Jon Stein; great-nephew Ryan Burrowbridge; and great-niece Rohan Stein.

The family wishes to thank the enormous outpourings of cards, flowers, Mass intentions, phone calls and dinners from the many friends and colleagues of Don. It has touched our hearts in so many ways through this devastating time.
