Donald's obituary
Donald A. Shafer of Kansas City, MO, passed away on May 30th, 2021 at the age of 74 years.
Don was born January 22, 1947 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Harry Alvin and Helen Elizabeth Shafer (Ray). He graduated from Weber State University. Don served in the Air Force and fought in the Tet Offensive during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1970.
On April 22, 1966, Don married his loving wife, Karen Shafer (Swenson) and celebrated 55 years of marriage. Don loved his family with all of his heart and devoted his life to providing wonderful memories, values, and continuous love.
Don was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed baseball, golfing, and watching his children and grandchildren in their activities. He attended every game or event he possibly could. He loved to grocery shop and make sure there were always goodies and ice cream to feed anyone that came into his home. He loved serving in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Temple.
Don was preceded in death by his parents: Harry Alvin and Helen Elizabeth Shafer. He is survived by his wife: Karen Shafer (Swenson); children and spouses: Jill & William Dietrich; Cris Shafer; Brighton & Greg Terwilleger; Nicholas & Angela Shafer; Todd & Lisa Shafer; and Chad & Laura Coons; grandchildren: Sydney & Lily Dietrich; Matthew, Scott, & Jenna Shafer; Ty, Briggs, & Lottie Terwilleger; Dayton, Bailey, & Riley Shafer; Tatem, Hally, & Tegan Shafer; Harper, Madden, & Teylie Coons; siblings and spouses: Michael J. & Lynne Rue Shafer and Margorie Shafer Mac.
Services will be held on June 5, 2021 at 11:30 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 6751 NE 70th St. Kansas City, MO 64119.
Burial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Glenridge Cemetery, B Hwy Liberty, MO 64068
