Donald's obituary
Donald Lee Ramsey passed away in his sleep early Tuesday morning, October 28, 2025, at Loving Angels in Home Care in Carmichael.
Donnie, or Don, to all who knew and loved him, resided in Sacramento and worked for the County of Sacramento at the landfill where he started in 1961, two weeks after it opened. Donnie retired from the County of Sacramento as a Senior Landfill Operator after over 35 years of service.
Donnie loved dogs. He always had dogs. Donnie was a roller skater, a fisherman and bowled on leagues for many years before he gave up some of his hobbies to spend more time with his horses and mules. He spent hours almost daily tending to his horse and mule and helping clean out the stalls of others. He also enjoyed feeding the ducks, geese, chickens and barn cats out at the "barn", Red Dog Ranch in Rio Linda, who would all come running when he drove up.
Donnie owned a share in R-Ranch in Northern California by the Klamath River, which had a lodge, clubhouse, cookhouse, line shacks and more prior to the last big fire. He spent many years meeting or taking family and friends up there to go for horse back rides, fish, swim and enjoy each others company before his health declined and could no longer make the trip.
Donnie was a member of Capitol Freewill Baptist Church and the Sacramento Horseman's Association for many, many years.
Donnie will be remembered by family, friends and all who knew him as a kind man with a quick smile and a sparkle in his eyes. He often spoke of his friends at the barn, his many adventures on the trails with Pastor Larrry and the gang, herding cattle and of how much he enjoyed attending Cowboy Church and his friends there. And he told many stories about growing up in California (where he was born) and in Arkansas where he spent time with relatives on and off through part of his childhood,
Donnie was preceded in death by his first born son Donald Allen Ramsey who passed away on January of 2022. He is survived by his brother, James L. Asher, with whom he lived with for over 50 years, his second son Dale Weston Ramsey, his grandson - Allen's son, Taylor Ramsey, his sister D. Sharon Rogers, her husband Chuck, their children Teri Redditt, Lisa Behrend and Michael Rogers and their families, his cousin Chris Shores-Hague, her husband George and their family and other cousins and extended family, his former wife, Taffy Steffen, his horse Bandit, his mule Crystal and his beloved dog Sierra.
