Donald Robert Pulfer, 77, of Chatham, New York, died peacefully at home on April 14, 2025 after having experienced a long illness. Don was born October 20, 1947 in Detroit Michigan, a son of Peggy and Robert Pulfer. He earned Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Architecture degrees from Syracuse University, graduating Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa. Don went on to earn a Master of Architecture degree from Syracuse University School of Architecture. He practiced architecture for 40 years in Hartford, Connecticut; Hudson and Chatham, New York; and Great Barrington and North Egremont, Massachusetts. Don deeply loved music and the arts. He read widely and enjoyed musical events, especially at Tanglewood Music Center in Lenox. He was predeceased by a young brother Thomas Ryan, his youngest brother Robert Francis II, his father Robert Francis, his mother Peggy Jean (Byers), and his twin brother Douglas Allen. Don is survived by his wife Ruth Blair and step-daughter Johanna Blair, his daughter Emily Frances Pulfer-Terino and his son Theodore Angelo Pulfer-Terino, their mother and his ex-wife Dorothy Terino, his son-in-law Chris Himes and grandson Lyric Isaac Himes, his daughter-in-law Jane Burns, his sister-in-law Irene and niece Katie (Kat) Pulfer. He also is survived by uncle John Byers and aunt Grace of Detroit and his aunt Patricia (Byers) Vereeke and uncle Roger of Gaylord, Michigan. Don was buried at the Harlemville Rural Cemetery on April 17, 2025. There will be a memorial celebration of his life this coming summer; details are forthcoming.
