Donald's obituary
Donald Joseph Nachreiner, 74, of Greensburg, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg.
Born July 6, 1948 in Pittsburgh, he was a son of the late Robert A. Nachreiner and Sophie L. (Sebroski) Nachreiner.
Donald graduated from Avonworth High School in Ben Avon and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from Duquesne University in 1970. Throughout the years, he had been employed at Union Carbide and Battelle. He had many passions in life, but perhaps his greatest was gardening, and he took great pride in the flowers and landscaping at his home. He was always interested in history, especially ancient history. A world traveler, he visited many sites, particularly in Europe, to see the great landmarks of history and the beautiful gardens of the world. Donald also loved to take creative photos, using his very unique perspective. Having played basketball in high school, he maintained a lifelong love of the sport and enjoyed watching college basketball, particularly the North Carolina Tar Hills. He was also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He loved to engage in very spirited debates about sports and politics, and as a lifelong Democrat, he was sure to express his beliefs. He will be remembered as a respectful and well-liked man.
Donald is survived by one son, Douglas A. Nachreiner of Greensburg; one daughter, Jodi N. Kumar, and her husband Burwell Hannon, of Takoma Park, MD; one grandson, Killian Wilder Hannon; two sisters, his twin Gloria Capone, and her husband Ralph, of Penn Hills and Shirley Paglialonga of North Hills; his nieces and nephews, Sharon Bannerji, Michael Capone, Tejon Paglialonga, and Grace Paglialonga; and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Kevin, Ava, Tyler, Kaylee, and Alexander.
At Donald’s request, there will be no public visitations. A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, 1 Schenley Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15213. Arrangements are being handled by the Lopatich-Brinker Funeral Home, LLC, 601 Weldon Street, Latrobe.
