Donald's obituary
He was caring, giving and would drop everything to be there when he was needed. His home and heart were always open, as he would say “Mi casa es su casa”. He had a soft spot for animals and adored his little pup Rocky. Don was happiest when he was surrounded by nature. His favorite spots to camp and fish were Yosemite National Park and Dardanelle Campground. He was an avid western fan so John Wayne and Clint Eastwood movies were always on the television. Time spent at shows where he could share his passions for classic cars and aviation with his children became some of Don’s fondest memories.
Don was extremely proud of his tenure both in the Navy and in Law Enforcement. He started his Law Enforcement career in 1972 with the Attleboro Police Department in Massachusetts. When he and his family moved to California in 1982, Don joined the San Jose Police Department, where he ultimately rose to the rank of Sergeant at the pinnacle of his career. Throughout his time on the force, the units to which he was assigned included vice, gangs, narcotics, violent crime, criminal intelligence, and homicide. He was passionate about his investigative work and found a great sense of accomplishment in “taking down the bad guy”. Don also enjoyed mentoring new recruits, competing on the pistol team, and smashing homers on the Chiefs softball team. Don retired in 2010 after 39 years of service to the community.
Don’s last few years were difficult at times as his memory was slowly deteriorating. We ask that you reflect upon him as the compassionate, caring man that he was in his prime, who never hesitated to give everyone and everything his all. We will always hold his memory close to our hearts.
