Donald's obituary

Donald Keith McGaughey

Age 66, of Tavares, FL (formerly Zanesville, OH) passed away on Friday, Feb 2, 2024 peacefully surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with Kidney Disease.

Don was the beloved husband of Mari (Campbell), loving father of Brandi (Scott) Hughett and Mindi (Daun) Boggs, son of Ralph (belated) and Pat, brother of Vicki (Kurt), Kathi (Mike), Sonny (Kris), Dean (Debbie), brother-in-law of Don and Joy Campbell, Poppy of Layni Gillespie and Duke Abbott, devoted companion to Franki, the fun Uncle to many nieces and nephews and the good time buddy of everyone he ever met.

With the kindest of hearts and the quickest of wits, Don excelled in all walks of life. He worked as hard as he played with a long career in management starting as the General Manager of Western Sizzlin' Steakhouse before embarking on a career in the trucking business. Don retired from Apache Logistics where he was an Operations Manager. He was a graduate of West Muskingum class of 1975 and attended Ohio University Zanesville.

Don loved life and all that entailed. He was a huge sports fan of the Buckeyes (O-H!), Cleveland Browns (Yes…really) and UK Wildcats. Making his dad and brothers laugh on the golf course was a highlight of his springs and summers and rocking out to classic rock, with an unmatched skill at air guitar that would impress Keith Richards, was a constant in his life.

Don had a twinkle in his eye where you just knew he had hilarious mischief on his mind, and you couldn’t wait to find out what it was. He was a gift to all who knew him and a rock to all who loved him with a sense of humor that stayed in tact until his very last sentence (It’s a good one!). The memories of Don will make us laugh daily and there’s peace knowing that he’s making his dad laugh again on the golf course in the sky.
