Don's obituary
Donald Irwin Mardock peacefully graduated from this life to the next in the presence of family on December 3, 2024 at the age of 94. His great grandson Crosby’s final words to him while he lay on his deathbed were, “Goodbye Papa Don. I’ll see you when we get to heaven. I love you so much!”
Don was truly loved “so much” by not only family, but by all who ever had the privilege of knowing him.
Don was born to Sylvan and Helen Mardock on September 17, 1930 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was the oldest of five children.
Don is survived by his bride of 73 years, Glenda Mardock. Together they had five children: Joyce Haehlen (now with him in heaven), Marci Pelot, Lori Mardock, Dana Mardock and James Mardock. Don was also blessed with seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. He has also been reunited in heaven with his beloved brother Larry, and is survived by his sisters Margaret Williams and Mable Mullen.
After graduating from Friends University in Wichita, KS, Don pastored several churches in Kansas before entering ministry with Youth For Christ. In 1960, he began his YFC ministry in Independence, KS then in Topeka, KS (1962); he was the Pacific Northwest YFC Area Director while living in Seattle (1968). He then moved to Pleasant Hill, CA (1973) and was director of Contra Costa YFC. Don moved to Minneapolis, MN (1982) and served as the YFC Northern States Area Director later moving to Wichita then Overland Park, KS (1986) serving as the YFC Mid-West States Area Director. He ministered in YFC for 46 years. After leaving YFC he ministered for 21 years at Heartland Community Church in Overland Park, KS.
After retiring in 2014, Don and Glenda moved to Concord, CA to live with Walt and Marci (daughter) Pelot. They relocated to Colorado Springs in 2021.
Don was always on the lookout for someone to tell the good news that God loved and highly valued them. He will be greatly missed!
