Donald's obituary
In Loving Memory of Donald R. Leandro Sr.
March 22, 1950 – May 3, 2021
Donald R. Leandro Sr., 71, of Waianae and a beloved resident of Hilo, passed away peacefully at Hilo Medical Center on May 3, 2021.
To know Donald was to know the very essence of love, loyalty, and honesty. He lived his life with an open heart, offering a rare kind of unconditional love that left a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to cross his path. No matter what hardships came his way, Donald’s integrity and morals never wavered.
Donald was a gifted mechanic and a brilliant inventor — a man whose ideas, though never fully realized, were ahead of their time and showed a mind full of promise and creativity. Even in his late 60s, he amazed family and friends by eagerly learning new technology, embracing challenges that many his age would shy away from.
But perhaps what Donald was best known for was his extraordinary sense of humor. A true comedic genius, he brought new jokes, sayings, and one-liners into the world that became part of his family’s shared language, echoing through the years and generations.
Donald’s passions were simple and profound: music, good food, and the kind of laughter that pulls people closer. His warmth, his inviting presence, and his unwavering loyalty to his family made him the heart and soul of his family.
Donald’s greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his Wife: Pauline Leandro, his four children: Donald Leandro Jr., (Ashlea Leandro), Greg Leandro, and Lisa Leandro; his six cherished grandchildren: Donnelle Leandro, Lilyth Leandro, Davyd Leandro, Henrych Leandro, Mahrkus Leandro, and Michael Souza Leandro; his brothers Vernol L. Leandro Jr. (Carol) and Clifton R. Leandro; and his sisters Donna Leandro, Terri Leandro, and Carolyn Leandro.
He also leaves behind numerous loving cousins, nieces, and nephews, all of whom he cherished deeply.
Donald was the embodiment of kindness, purity, and unconditional love. No one alive or gone could ever say they heard him tell a lie — he lived as purely and honestly as anyone ever has. His light, laughter, and love will live on forever in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
He will be deeply missed, always remembered, and forever loved.
