Donald Keenan, 84 died peacefully in La Grande, Oregon on September 10, 2019. He was born in Seattle, Washington. As a young boy he lived in Heppner, Oregon tending sheep and also worked for Standard Oil before enlisting into the U.S. Navy. Don served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. In the 1960’s he worked for Technicolor Motion Picture Corporation as a dark room managing technician in the San Francisco Bay Area where he met his first wife Katherine (Kathy) Bess. Don and Kathy started a family and lead many business ventures. He started two of the first 10-min oil changing businesses in San Carlos, California. In the early 1980’s Don and Kathy decided to move to Eastern Oregon with their four children. There the family owned and managed two bars, two restaurants, a porta-potty pumper business and a convenient store. Don resided in La Grande, Oregon for 30 years.
Don loved horses, the 49ers, good food, beer and gambling and was a cowboy at heart.
He was preceded in death by his wife Katherine Bess in 1998. Donald is survived by his second wife Donna Ladd and four children: son Donald Keenan, Jr.; daughter Sheila Patch and her husband Dave; daughter Kimberly Keenan and; daughter Meichiel Weiss and her husband Jeff and his seven grandchildren: Patrick Hoyt, Molly Keenan, Jake Keenan, Brenden Patch, Katherine Patch, Ryan Weiss and Alexa Weiss.
The family would like friends and family to join as his ashes will be interred at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Colma on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 followed by a celebration of life. Please contact the family for additional details.
