Donald's obituary

Donald Joseph Guhman

November 30, 1938 – December 23, 2025

Donald Joseph Guhman, 87, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2025. Born on November 30, 1938, in Manhattan, Donald spent his childhood in Cedarhurst and Newark Valley before settling in Massapequa Park, Long Island, where he spent the majority of his life raising his family and building a life rooted in dedication, curiosity, and quiet strength.

Donald was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Ruth Guhman, and a proud father and grandfather whose family was the center of his world. He is survived by his sons Brian Guhman (Jan), Kurt Guhman (Megan), and Kevin Guhman (Sarah), and by his cherished grandchildren Joshua, Nicole, Delaney, Kennedy, Jameson, Madeline, Hudson, and Eloise, each of whom brought him immense joy.

Donald proudly served in the United States Air Force, an experience that shaped much of his life and the stories he loved to share. Following his service, he built a long and respected career as an airline mechanic, working for both Pan American World Airways and Delta Air Lines. He took great pride in his work and the role he played in aviation history, including memorable experiences with charter flights and work connected to Air Force One. Aviation was more than a career for Donald—it was a lifelong passion.

In retirement, Donald remained closely connected to that passion through his volunteer work at the American Airpower Museum, where he enjoyed sharing his knowledge and enthusiasm with others.

Outside of aviation, Donald found joy in simple pleasures: riding his motorcycle, cycling, reading, taking long drives, off-roading, and enjoying a good meal. Some of his most treasured memories were family vacations with Ruth and their sons, as well as evenings spent sharing stories from his years in the Air Force and the airline industry.

Donald will be remembered for his steady presence, thoughtful conversations, and the deep love he had for his family. His stories, wisdom, and quiet humor will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
