Donald's obituary
Don was born in Streator Illinois on August 20, 1944 to Winfred E Cravens (deceased) and Helen Maxine {Smith} Cravens, He graduated from Thornton High School, Harvey .Illinois and attended Thornton Jr, College on a Track Scholarship. However, he knew he wanted to follow his father's footsteps and joined the Marine Corp. Don was forever a Marine and proud to have served his country.
In October of 1968 he met Diane Cowger of Peotone, Il.-they were married on August 16th, 1969 in Crete, Illinois.
They lived in Crete and later moved to to Lacon, Illinois where Don worked for Caterpillar Co, Don had family in Lacon and made many friends and memories while living there. In 1982 their family of four moved to Houston, Texas for the rest of Don's life. He loved Texas and knew he would never return to Illinois. He worked for WFI International for almost 30 years and was a very faithful employee.
Fishing was a great past time for Don-he may have started later in life but oh how he loved sitting along a bank with a couple of poles and relax.
He also loved sports and in his earlier years of marriage he was known to leave family functions or not go at all to watch The Chicago Bears! He loved the Cubs too-but the ASTROS were favorites too.
Cy Fair Christian Church was another love of Don's. He loved the Pastors and the congregation so much! Don and Diane were blessed with two children-Brian E Cravens (Audrey ) of La Grange, Texas and Amy Prasatik of Houston. He loved these two with all his heart and was so proud of them. He was blessed with two granddaughters, Abigail Grace and Alyssa Jordyn Prasatik whom brought so much joy to him. The girls lovingly called him "Old Man" and he would laugh whenever they called him by his special name. He also considered Luke of LaGrange, Tx as a bonus grandson.
Don is also survived by his mother Helen of Spring, Texas and brother Mike Cravens (Andrea) of Indiana, sister Pam Alford(Randal) of Spring, Texas and sister Nora Tanzosh(Jerry) of Spring Texas, plus several nieces and nephews and brothers in law and sister in-laws and aunts.
In early 2019 Don was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer-he fought the fight and was ready as he said to "Go Home!"
He died peacefully during the early morning hours of March 5th with his wife by his side. He never complained just worried about all who were helping to take care of him-especially his kids and grandkids.
Since it was the pandemic Don wasn't able to be laid to rest until June 30th, 2020 and his wish was to be buried at Houston National Cemetery, with full Honors. Don was so thankful for all the family, friends and neighbors who were always there to help during his illness! Rest in Peace Faithful Servant-you are no longer in pain but oh how we will miss you!
