Don's obituary

Donald Charles Dunn, 76, of Bowdoinham, Maine, passed away on December 20, 2022 after a long battle with kidney, heart, and diabetic disease.

Don was born on September 13, 1946 to Kenneth and Mildred Dunn in Brunswick, Maine. After graduating from Brunswick High School in June 1964, he went on to study physical education at the University of Maine, Orono.     After graduation, he landed his first job as a science teacher for Libby Tozier  school  in Litchfield, Maine where he taught for 35 years. He was a beloved teacher for many generations of students. In 1975, he met Eileen Gowell and they wed in 1980. Don and Eileen went on to have 3 children, his stepson, Timothy Knowles, David Dunn, and Rebecca Buck (née Dunn). Don loved nature and he himself  was a force of nature, determined to live life to the fullest. Although he had many serious health issues the word “limited” did not exist in Don’s vocabulary. He defied medical odds at every turn. A true fighter. He could always be found doing something outside whether it was canoeing, hiking, archery, fishing, or dog sledding. If he was not outside, he could be found inside pouring over his Bible or music books and guitar chords. He loved music.  He loved the Lord and was a founding member of Richmond Corner Baptist Church where he faithfully attended right up until he could no longer travel. He was a member of the Gideons of Maine spreading Gods Word all around Maine. He served on the maintenance team at New England Frontier Camp in Lovell, Maine for many years. His family meant so much to him and was something he often mentioned. He was unendingly proud of his children Tim, Dave, and Becky and his grandchildren, Emma, Justin, Nolan, Ian, Rowan, and Eliana and always tried his best to support them. Don was predeceased by his father, Kenneth Dunn, his mother, Mildred Dunn, his sister Joyce Newton (née Dunn), and his brother Harold Dunn.  He is survived by his wife, Eileen Dunn, his children Timothy Knowles, David Dunn, Rebecca Buck (née Dunn), and his grandchildren, Emma Knowles, Justin Knowles, Nolan Buck, Ian Buck, Rowan Buck, and Eliana Buck. There will be a memorial service Tuesday, December 27th at 4:00pm at Stetsons Funeral Home on Federal Street in Brunswick, Maine. The family is planning a burial service and celebration of Don's life in May of 2023. Details of that service are still to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to be made in Don's memory to his wife, Eileen Dunn to ease the financial burden of medical and funeral expenses.
