Don's obituary
As Don would say, "here's the deal:"
Much like his wife (Jean Eige) before him, Don Eige peacefully escaped this Crazy Train on Saturday April 12th, 2025 after a short battle with cancer.
Don was (in the best way) a lifelong hoodlum: forever young at heart, mischievous, hilarious, and never too serious. He loved all things nature, rocking out to hair bands and classic rock, tinkering, pranking his loved ones, and of course... grilling!
After his wife passed, Don felt it was time for a change of scenery; he left his hometown of Rockford, Illinois and moved to Southern California to be closer to his daughter Christine, her partner Tom, and his army of "grandcats." Don absolutely loved the much needed change in atmosphere (and climate!) and spent his days soaking up the California sun with a Miller Genuine Draft in one hand, a smoke in the other, and a big smile across his face.
And lastly... towards the end (after a lifetime of denial) Don finally admitted what we have known all along: that he "actually loves cats."
Don will be tremendously missed by his daughter Christine Eige, Tom Ruud (who he lovingly referred to as his son in law), son Conner Eige, brother in law John Schwartz, long time friend Laura Meyer, and his newfound California "family" such as Miles Lasiter and the Hauser family.
~ any way the wind blows...
___________
There will be no service per Don's request; just grill up a steak, play some Foo Fighters, and have a beer in his memory! In lieu of flowers, Don has asked for donations to help the family pay for his medical expenses.
