I once got a call just after midnight that he has been receiving calls from the Milwaukee Fire Dept that they need access to one of my stores because it was on fire. Using strong language that was definitely not in his character and telling me that my managers or myself should be handling it, and that I better get over there immediately to keep my position, I drove to the store and found nothing.
2 hours later when I got home I received a call...
"April Fools".
He was a true mentor, friend and the world has lost one of the greatest people I have ever met.

Our hearts and prayers to Lisa, Wes and Lauren on the loss of Don.  He will always be the best Husband, Father, Grandfather, Uncle and Brother.

Don will always be remembered as the biggest, Funniest Proudest person in the room.

The following quote best describes Don:

“The Count took pride in wearing a well-tailored jacket; but he took greater pride in knowing that a gentleman's presence was best announced by his bearing, his remarks, and his manners. Not by the cut of his coat.”

Don will be missed by all.

First, I would like to say how sorry I am for Uncle Donnie's passing. Aunt Lisa, Wes and Lauren my heart goes out to you all and the family. Words can't express how I felt about my Uncle.  He played such an important role model of how I am a Father to this day. He loved his family like no other and would always be the life of any room. My high school friends and college friends still to this day ask about my Uncle. We had great times when he would come and visit me in Nashville, TN. I can't talk about the crazy nights we had LOL!!!! The best summers I had was when in college I would go and visit my Uncle and Aunt in Chicago. The stories we had at the Cubs and White Sox games. I will always treasure those memories.

Someone as full of life as Don will never be forgotten!

- As a young boy, I lived on my grandparents' farm.  I remember sharing stories with Don of exploring the outdoors,,, running along creek beds, fishing, hunting and feeling "CAREFREE FREEDOM."

-I remember many of the club social events, planned by the "Busy Bees," and the amount of work that went into each gathering.  By the way, I think that this social committee service is one of the primary pillars that the friendliness and productivity of this club is built upon.  Well, behind the scenes were the "spousal worker bees," and when you remember.... Don was there with a willing and playful hand.

-I remember how he would always greet me by coming up behind me and pinching my inner thigh.  At first I would be surprised.  Then I learned to lean into it and enjoy the personality that was Don.

-Of course, I remember his big ole smile.  It would light up a room and, like a magnet, draw people into his circle of genuine fun.

-However, one of my fondest memories of Don was his laugh.  It was intoxicating.  He could always make me laugh with his playful banter and positive energy.

-I can't think of a higher accolade than, HE ALWAYS MADE ME LAUGH!

-I relate to a line from a well-known Moody Blues song ....."Lovely to see you again my friend, walk along with me to the next bend."  Our walk with Don may be at an end for now, but he will travel with me in my memories.

No words can express the loss of my little brother.  He was always getting Kenny, Kathy and I in trouble because of his tricks and funny ways.  Mom's favorite.  We use to stand in the corner because of him and when time was up, he would do something to make us stay longer,  Sorry I can not attend but all the memories will be there.  There are other stories to tell.  If you see Kenny ask him about Don running away, the Christmas Don feel thru the attic so he could see his presents.  Loved him very much and will be missed by my family.
I got to know Don when I joined the Rotary Club of Schaumburg-Hoffman Estates. He was one of the Rotarians who really made me feel welcome. He was always ready to reach out to people and to serve in any way asked. He truly exemplified what it means to be a Rotarian.

No words can express how much he will be missed by all of us. And that is nothing compared to how much I know he will be missed by the family. Please accept my sincere condolences on the loss of Don as husband, father, sibling (inclucing brother-in-law, a running joke between Don and Jim in the club), uncle and so on. Don wore many hats and he wore them all well, with entusiasm and love.
My sincerest condolences to Lisa, Wes, your family, and everyone who loved and will miss Don. I had the pleasure to know him through Rotary. He was a light in every room he entered, exuded friendliness and fun. Glad to have known him.
Please accept our sincere condolences. Lou and I wish we could be there with you. Unfortunately, we have a prior commitment at Lou’s college and it is exactly at the same time. I firmly believe Don’s life celebration will continue for as long as people remember his kindness, his sincerity and his warm smile.
